Swallowing is a fundamental act in the development and functional balance of the oral system. Static and dynamic dysfunctions of the tongue are the main epigenetic causal component of all orthodontic problems in our patients.

Rehabilitation of adult patients must have as its main goal aesthetics but also the restoration of proper masticatory function, with the utmost respect for biology.

In all interdisciplinary rehabilitation, correct swallowing and lingual posture must first be recovered. In the initial diagnostic phase, it is essential to carry out a functional and postural study of the 3 main muscle groups of the oral system: the muscles of mastication, swallowing, and sucking.

Multiple different lingual dysfunctions cause orthodontic occlusal problems, and therefore one cannot think of realigning the teeth without first properly refunctionalizing the tongue.

Swallowing rehabilitation becomes a priority step of all orthodontic therapies from childhood to adulthood. Rehabilitating the adult patient effectively today means performing a sequence of treatment in 3 steps: correction of atypical swallowing, realignment of teeth and creation of proper inter-arch coherence, and finally restoring teeth that also need to rejuvenate the smile and possibly restore the structure lost through wear and tear.

The use of Froggymouth is essential to redirect the swallowing dynamic thus making the tongue no longer a destabilizing risk factor for relapse and joint dysfunction but a balancing tool for rehabilitated mouths.
